Grave Mercy Cover Art

I find myself in the position of having something exciting to share, but no real blog home from which to share it. My R.L. LaFevers author blog has now become a part of my new middle grade website, and my new YA website is not finished yet.

BUT.

I have a brand new cover to share, so I'm hoping you will not mind if I take a moment to unveil it here. (Plus? I am sick with a horrid chest cold and have absolutely ZERO ability to write a decent post for today. /whine)

Ta da! This is the cover for my upcoming YA:

As you can see, it is quite a bit different in tone and feel from Theodosia or Nathaniel Fludd...that and the older target audience has necessitated a slightly different author name as well as a new (still-under-construction) website.

Once again, I am in awe of Houghton Mifflin's art department. ::pinches self::

Wow, that's my Christmas outfit, right there. Fur-collared red gown with cuff embroidery, and crossbow accessory. And how much do I love the tagline??? Cannot wait to read this. Congratulations to you - and feel better soon.

Gollygeewhiz, Robin - it's FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love her crossbow! She's da bomb!

(Hope you feel better soon, I just got back from a week of 5 schools in the Bay Area and three evening events with a cold/sore throat/hoarseness. It was tough!) Been wanting to write to you! Did you see my jaw-dropping Publisher's Marketplace news about a week ago? My belly dance Middle Eastern trilogy sold to Harpercollins in a Pre-empt Significant Deal!!! I'm still in mind-numbing shock.)

I also finished every single THEODOSIA and LOVED them! They are SO GOOD!!!

And you forgot to give us a pub date for GRAVE MERCY, girl!

And I need to stop writing emails here in the comments . . . ;-)

Gorgeous indeed! That was the first word that popped into my head, too, so I'm sticking with it despite the lack of originality.

I'm so glad you guys like it, too! And what a great Christmas outfit that would make, Tanita! We will need pictures, of course. :-)

Kimberly, NO. I did NOT see your Publisher's Lunch announcement (I don't subscribe any more, in an effort to keep myself sane and focused) so I am hugely glad you shared the news here! Wow-oh-wow! How exciting!! I bet your feet haven't touched the ground since!

And I'm thrilled you like Theo so much! Yay!

Darn. Forgot it again. The pub date is April 3, 2012, but there are ARCs floating around out there now...

Beautiful! Love that dress and crossbow! She looks so strong.

I have it pre-ordered :)

And I adore the tagline, especially given the period in which the story takes place...

Hmmmm... I Like it!

I do think it's interesting that the only name change needed for Genre swapping is going from initials to your name. That's great that you didn't have to change it to an entirely different name.

This looks fantastic -- just the kind of thing I love, plus your fantastic plotting skills. Can't wait to read it!

Congratulations! Looks great - though if it were me packing the crossbow I'd have my hair tied back from my face ready for business! ;)

Robin,

That is one of the most beautiful covers I've ever seen!

They will surely fly off the shelves.

All best,
Donna

I just saw this book on Goodreads, and found your blog randomly, Robin :) I can not wait to read it, love love love assassins! Fantastic cover!

Thanks so much, guys! So glad you all liked it as much as I do.

And Jennifer, I DID see your original comment. I remember because it made me laugh really hard because you totally nailed me on my hesitancy to post the cover. :-)

Hi Kara-Karina! I had not realized there was such a large number of readers who loved assassins. Needless to say, I'm thrilled! :-)
